We took a Limo from Film School to a creative powerhouse
The founders of Originator, Derek Gildersleeve and Willie Rockefeller met at the University of Texas at Austin school of Radio TV & Film, and immediately began working on each other’s comedy projects.
From there, they started a production company (then called Match Point Productions) straight out of their rental house living room. They began filming events, commercials and making their own comedic videos. They bought a limo for three thousand dollars, and drove people around for free.
Over the next decade they got the opportunity to make uniquely engaging content for a variety of clients, while accumulating equipment and making valuable connections with crew around the US (and the world). They never were really good at tooting their own horn, (still aren’t really) but word of mouth spread as their work spoke for itself and clients saw their return on investment.
In 2016, they bought a studio in East Austin, rebranded to Originator Studios, where they office out of, rent the studio, throw fun parties, and host stand-up comedy nights (among other weird things Austinites do in their spare time).
The group officially dropped the “Studios” portion of their name in early 2026 to make it clear that they are a creative powerhouse for turn key video production services that happens to have their own studio space.
