Project overview
Our friends at Moontower Comedy Festival and Just For Laughs brought us in to produce a special of Martin Urbano's Apology Comeback Tour. Martin's satirical style and three-act structure gave us a rare chance to tell a story, not just capture a set. With Willie directing and Derek as DP, we filmed at Austin's historic State Theatre during the city's biggest comedy festival.

Our Approach
Martin and his team wanted the special's three distinct acts to be clear, with his character shifting in each one. We worked with lighting director Eric Gerzymisch to build live lighting cues that change the mood from act to act, right in front of the audience. We also used a roaming camera that climbed on stage for a wide-lens close-up during Martin's sardonic monologue. From there, it followed him through his crowd work and all the way out of the venue on his abrupt exit.

The Outcome
The special premiered on 800 Pound Gorilla Media before finding a second life on YouTube, where it has passed 40,000 views. Martin is still touring and turning up on podcasts with his unmistakable characters and impressions. We're proud to have captured this chapter of his act.
