ACL Artist's Lounge VR Experience
A custom musical VR experience
Project overview
We were approaced to build a full VR experinec for Austin City Limits' Artist Lounge. We pitched a simple concept: What if we turned the Austin skyline into an interactive, musical instrument?

Our Approach
VR is a very different medium than other formats, so we had to keep in mind that many players had never put on a headset before. We kept the concept simple, you pop on the headset, and look down at the city from a giants perspective. In your hans? Drumsticks! Immediately people start experimenting with the interaction here, making songs and playing beats on the Capitl building and Frost tower. They also got to rock out to an ACL artist and customize the song under the floating Tito’s Handmade Vodka bottle.
The Outcome
The key takeaway was providing a fun, unique experience for our guests while allowing them to interact with the sponsors and city in a way never before possible. Interactions with the sponsors would trigger fun animations or easter eggs that resulted in an expression of pure joy from the players.
We’ve been able to rebrand this custom VR experience for several events and sponsors.
