Whole Foods VR
Bring the store to you in VR

Bring the store to you in VR
How do you give someone a tour of a Whole Foods that's 2,000 miles away that also allows them to interact with the products, sample the wares, and feel immersed in the physical space? That was the challenge when Hunt, Gather teamed up with the Originator development team to bring the new Lake Oswego store, just outside Portland, Oregon, into virtual reality. The goal was an experience so intuitive that people who had never tried VR, or even heard of it, could step right in and explore.

We photo-scanned the store and combined those scans with architectural 3D renders to build an exact virtual replica. Guests chose which part of the store they wanted to visit, and the store's mascot, a friendly talking alpaca, guided them the whole way. The alpaca highlighted the store's new features and kept first-timers moving smoothly through the experience.
To keep things fun, we gamified moments throughout. Guests could take a swig of wine, juggle tomatoes, or bowl a strike with some frozen chickens.
Guests and team members at the Whole Foods summit got the full tour of the new store without traveling across the country to see it. Because the experience was built to last, Whole Foods can bring it to future events and meetings whenever they need it, and it's designed to grow as new sections of the store are added. We couldn't be happier with how it turned out
